DisplayPort Overview Slide 5
HDMI is based on CRT technology – e.g. it is based on raster scan (pixel by pixel, accompanied by an explicit clock). DisplayPort is a high-bit rate digital interface based on a micropacket architecture and embedded clocking. Both support audio and HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). The HDMI standard has matured over time and has been well adopted by the industry. HDMI is implemented in DVD players, TVs, Cameras and a range of other consumer products. Additionally, DisplayPort, which is a royalty-free standard, is becoming increasingly popular among the computing industry as it is a digital standard that can potentially replace the analog VGA standard in future. So, HDMI and DisplayPort will co-exist for a long time rather than one replacing the other.
