The TWA® parts are also used as power pulse sources wherein the high current pulses provided by the capacitor maintain a higher voltage across the battery, effectively avoiding the low battery indicator providing a longer battery life. Other uses include AC ripple current handling capability for low switching frequencies and high voltage power supply filtering on the input or output of the circuit. Solid tantalums are not generally used on the input of power supplies due to their susceptibility to surge currents while wet tantalums do not have this issue.
