TPAN0220/TPAL0220 Series TO220 Package High Power Resistors

RESI's TPAN0220 and TPAL0220 are TO-220 non-inductive high-power resistors. The TO-220 transistor outline package is a through-hole package commonly used for high-power transistors, small and medium-size integrated circuits, power resistors, and more. With a proper heatsink, the TPAN0220 series can be rated up to 50 W, and the TPAL0220 series can be rated up to 35 W. The products have optimized process design to achieve excellent long-term stability, low temperature coefficient, high heat dissipation, low thermal resistance, low current noise, and more, making it widely used.

TPAN0220 and TPAL0220 series resistors adopt a flange for better heat dissipation to balance the thermal characteristics of the circuit. They are usually designed for current measurement, energy absorption, discharge, RC absorption, high-speed switching, high-frequency transmission circuits, voltage regulation, constant power loads, and low-energy pulse loads. Their industry applications include industrial laser welding equipment, test equipment, instrumentation UPS, electric vehicles, and switching power supplies.

As a pure heating element, the TO package resistor converts all electrical energy into heat energy manifested as a rise in temperature. When the resistor works at high temperature for a long time, the electrical performance and life of the resistor will be weakened. Therefore, to control the heating temperature of the resistor when it is used in high-power applications, the heat dissipation of the resistor must be considered.

When installing TPAN and TPAL, thermally conductive silicone grease needs to be printed on the bottom part of the resistor flange in contact with the heat sink, or additional thermally conductive shims need to be added in order to reduce the gap between the resistor flange surface and the heat sink to ensure good thermal conductivity.
